PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT FOR MANUFACTURING SECTOR
Performance management is, helping a business to achieve its goals by planning key performance targets and measuring the progress of achieving those targets. Armsrong and Baron (1998) said that performance management is a strategic and integrated approach to improve the performance and to develop the capabilities of teams and individuals to deliver successful results for the organization.
The traditional performance management was focused more on individual level .But with the rapid changers of the manufacturing industry in nowadays, focus has changed to ensure the alignment of the teams to achieve the same goals by allowing the company to grow (Chelniciuc, 2010).By leveraging a performance management system, manufacturing companies can work towards a more engaged workforce and give people a meaningful sense of work by providing continuous feedback and goals to employees. This ensures that employees from the line to the field understand how their contributions affect the goals of the company, creating a feeling of larger purpose and significance in their role.

Performance management can use to make decisions and to execute them.Hence it connects all the functions of the organization into a system for achieving high level objectives of the management and it can be cascade into department levels. This will share the insights for all the levels personnel to understand their contribution to organizational objectives and empower them to perform better. It will challenge the department silos and will bring everyone to one platform of achieving a common goal.By applying performance management as a real time activity that gives instant feedback on deviations to correct them ,the negative impacts can be overcome.
To strengthen the performance management system ,manufacturing organizations can automate inefficient manual processes and facilitate the performance management process to record employee performance feedback,to capture KPIs and to access this data.It can connect the employee goals with the business goals to the organizational strategic objectives (Pollock, 2019). By introducing a learning and innovative culture, the development and the engagement of the performance can be achieved while establishing the commitment to the company ,talent development and retention of top performers.
A strong performance management tool can be valuable to improve manufacturing results at every level. This will align the individual activities with organization strategy to achieve expected results. With the actionable information provide by the performance management, organization can accelerate the sustainable productivity.
