Why Should Companies Engage in E-Recruitment?
Introduction
"Post and pray" approach to get fitting applicants for open vacancies is over now and nowadays organizations need to be more proactive and creative to attract the correct people.Traditional recruitment method has been revolutionized by the wave of internet. E-Recruitment is the latest trend and it has been adopted by large & small sized organizations. E-recruitment is the use of technology and electronic resources for the process of attracting, selecting and managing the recruitment in a company. This includes practices carried out by the organization using technology, particularly web-based technology for the purpose of identifying and attracting potential employees.

E-Recruitment started in the form of autonomous job sites called bulletin board systems in the 1980s. A new global trend was started in US when Jeff Taylor launched Mnster.com with 20 clients and 200 job openings in 19994. Today more than three fourth of the Fortune 500 companies use online recruiting and also now people use mobile application for uploading resumes and searching jobs on portals (Manju 2017).
Job seekers are increasingly using Web 2.0 services like LinkedIn and job search sites. On the other hand, a lot of companies use online knowledge management systems to hire employees, exploiting the advantages of the World Wide Web. These are termed e-recruitment systems and automate the process of publishing positions and receiving CVs (Alateyah 2019).

Conclusion
E- recruitment is a valuable tool to be used when looking for new hires, but the most effective strategy would be to conduct multiple simultaneous campaigns, including the use of traditional media, headhunters and external recruiting agencies. Compared to traditional recruitment methods it can provide opportunities, like increased efficiency, cost saving, reductions of effort for administrative issues and an improvement of HR planning processes. The downsides of e-recruitment should also be considered, such as the lack of “personal touch” or a huge volume of unqualified and low quality candidates.
the increasing use of social media brings up the question if it is really allowed for companies to do background checks and candidate profiling based on their social media profiles. The EU is actually now trying to regulate this issue by releasing the General Data Protection Regulation effective from the 25th of May 2018 .There is no need to implement comprehensive and complete technological solutions at once. The systems should be implemented component by component. The target should be to familiarize the employees with new systems.
The websites or web portals through which some of the companies are conducting their recruitment efforts should be attractive and user friendly. These web portals should be developed from the applicant perspective i.e. to provide more facilities and ease to the applicants. The company HR databases should be regularly updated and training must be provided to all HR persons for increasing their capabilities to deliver the proper result and actual benefits of E-recruitment (Malik & Mujtaba 2018).
